Dubai is a modern and diverse city, home to families from around the world, each with their own distinct cultures. Recognizing the importance of educating expatriates about UAE traditions and customs, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum established The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) in 1998. The center, located in a beautifully restored wind tower house in Bur Dubai’s Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, serves as a bridge between different nationalities living in the UAE.
It offers various activities, including traditional cuisine experiences and conversations with local Emiratis, with a motto of “Open Doors, Open Minds,” encouraging open and respectful dialogue. Visitors can enjoy guided walking tours and traditional Emirati meals while gaining insights into life in the emirate through the perspectives of their local hosts. Early booking is recommended to secure a spot for these award-winning programs.
