Spill The Bean Launches Limited-Edition Gluten-Free Millet Aseeda, Perfect For Suhoor

Spill the Bean’s twist features a gluten-free millet version of the ancient dish

This Ramadan, Spill the Bean, the Dubai-based independent specialty coffee shop and neighbourhood café, is offering its own unique twist on aseeda, the nostalgic Middle Eastern and North African pudding.

Aseeda, typically a wheat-and-date dessert served to mark occasions such as Mawlid and Eid, is being given a creative twist at Spill the Bean, served as a gluten-free millet version, with saffron-infused ghee and date syrup.

Local third-wave coffee movement pioneer, Spill the Bean, has always prided itself on creating imaginative culinary dishes that expertly pair with its range of organic, fair trade, single origin coffees. 

And now guests visiting one of Spill the Bean’s two Dubai outlets – in Dubai Sustainable City and Circle Mall in JVC – can try a bowl of its original aseeda during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Hannad Abi Haydar, Spill the Bean’s co-founder, recommends aseeda for suhoor: “Aseeda is one of my favourite dishes for suhoor because it gives you steady, sustained energy without feeling heavy,” he says, adding: “Our gluten-free millet version, finished with saffron-infused ghee and date syrup, digests slowly, helping to keep blood sugar stable during the long fasting hours, while the natural sweetness of the dates provides a gentle lift of energy before the day begins. It’s wholesome, comforting and beautifully balanced – exactly what you want before a day of fasting.”

Note that while Spill the Bean will be open during Ramadan, diners can order aseeda – traditionally associated with breakfast – ahead as a suhoor dish to enjoy at home.
