Dubai: Launch Of ‘Stories Over Art’ ,An Online Publication To Applaud Arts

Stories over art, a Dubai-based platform launched in May 2024, aspires to applaud the creativity and dedication of artists across all mediums, serving as a space, motivator, and steadfast supporter of their invaluable contributions to our lives. In a world that often overlooks the significance of art, the online publication firmly believes that it (art) is essential, more so than anything else. The events of the recent pandemic have underscored this truth, as many of us turned to movies, music, literature, and other forms of art to find refuge, solace, and a connection to our inner selves. Yet, amidst the beauty and transcendence of art lies a stark reality: being an artist, artiste, or creator is a solitary and arduous journey. Despite misconceptions of glamour, the truth reveals itself in the form of minimal support, pervasive anxiety, and an unrelenting demand for exposure without compensation. However, in the face of these challenges, artists persevere. They pour their hearts and souls into their craft, driven by an unwavering passion to make sense of the world around them. It is this resilience, this refusal to be silenced, that inspires stories over art.

“Here, we offer more than words on a page. We offer a sanctuary where artists are celebrated, their struggles acknowledged, and their voices amplified. It is our humble attempt to provide a beacon of support for the creative souls who illuminate our world with their brilliance,” said Purva Grover, founder and editor-in-chief of stories over art. Purva, a seasoned journalist, author, and creative entrepreneur, has called Dubai her home for 12+ years. In her recent eight-year stint as an ex-associate editor for the Khaleej Times newspaper, Purva worked tirelessly and passionately to give art space in the pages. Purva (www.purvagrover.com) has also been the media partner for the last two editions of World Art Dubai in 2023 and, recently, in 2024.  She claims that her personal and professional commitment to arts in the UAE keeps her sane, happy, and content. In the last decade, she has been on the stage, in the green room, and the audience as a performer, editor, supporter, enthusiast, and more.

Stories over art invites one and all to honor the creative souls who dare to dream, create, and challenge the status quo. “Together, let us champion the arts, for they are not just a luxury but a necessity — a lifeline that helps us navigate the complexities of existence and find meaning in the chaos, ” said Purva.

While the online publication focuses on the Middle East, it aspires to include news and views from other parts of the world. Yes, the platform will publish press notes, listicles, and more. Still, its core strength and focus will remain to be a platform that will share stories of people and platforms that aren’t spoken of, as loudly as should and say of trends that are taking shape as we speak; and yes, ask and aspire to answer a few relevant questions when it comes to the changing art scene in the region. Who are the local actors making it to Bollywood? Is Dubai’s local theatre scene crumbling, and why? Do you know of one of the oldest artists in the UAE? What’s driving the female stand-up comedy scene in Dubai?
